February 18, 2019

Greetings from wintery Waterloo Region. It was a sunny and very beautiful February 18 here in Elmira.  But I was planning to be flying out to Haiti today.  Last week Monday, in collaboration with our church leaders in Haiti, I made the difficult decision to cancel the team travelling there on Tuesday for 2 weeks and my trip there for the next month.   The people of Haiti have been struggling with fuel and food shortages.  Cities have been shut down due to protests and significant violence.    Schools and shops are closed.  With these increased stresses on our friends there, it was prudent to postpone travels to Cape Haitian, Port au Prince and communities beyond such as Benoit and Gens de Nantes.  I am grateful to God for his leading in this decision.

Please pray for Haiti.   There are many socioeconomic and political factors that enter into the situation and resolution is difficult and longterm.  Pray for the leadership of the nation.  Pray for believers who have positions of power and influence.  Pray that integrity and accountability, compassion and credibility would become a part of the fabric of this nation which is historically plagued with corruption and violence.

I thought that the verse of the day was appropriate for today’s post:

But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”  Jeremiah 17:10 NLT

God, we pray that you will be the “refuge and fortress” for the believers in Haiti.  “Cover them with your feathers; may they find refuge under your wings.”  “May your faithfulness be their shield.”  Psalm 91:2,4

Until next post,

“Grace be with you all.” Titus 3:15b
